North City Centre for Early Intervention and Inclusive Education

Departments & Services

Seven specialist departments: assessment, early intervention, school readiness, inclusive education, individual sessions, family counselling and awareness.

1

Assessment

Psycho-educational assessment of students using a set of standardised tests, such as:

  • Cognitive abilities (IQ test)
  • Learning difficulties
  • Visual sensitivity screening
  • English language skills
  • Autism
  • Developmental disorders
  • Speech and language skills
  • Sensory processing
  • Functional skills
  • Behavioural difficulties
2

Early Intervention

Integrated services that develop children's skills and reduce the impact of difficulties and disability on their future and their families'. The programme centres on guiding mothers and training them to work with their child, and offers a readiness programme for nursery and kindergarten across motor, cognitive, social and communication, speech and language, and behavioural development.

Who it serves

  • All children under six with developmental disorders (motor, cognitive, communicative, social, behavioural or language).
  • Children at risk.
  • Families, especially mothers.

Services

  • Psychological and educational counselling for the family and child.
  • Support services: behaviour modification, occupational therapy, speech training, physiotherapy.
  • Developing the child's independence, daily-living, social, communication, interaction, cognitive, emotional and pre-school skills.
3

School Readiness & Partial Inclusion

Kindergarten preparatory class (ages 3–6)

For children whose difficulties keep them from regular kindergarten classes — training, support and every service they need to join their peers in kindergarten.

School preparatory class (ages 6–9)

For students whose difficulties keep them from a regular classroom, with every service that prepares them to join their peers.

Services

  • Support services: speech therapy, physiotherapy.
  • Individual skills: independence, daily living, social, communication, interaction and cognitive.
  • Academic and functional-academic skills.
  • Psychological counselling: behaviour, positive self-concept, self-management, confidence and self-esteem, coping with stress.
4

Inclusive Education

For students in regular classes from Grade 1 to Grade 10 whose difficulties affect their achievement without preventing inclusion. Support is delivered flexibly:

Resource rooms

Specialist rooms for students with significant difficulties in Arabic, English or Mathematics; the number of sessions follows each student's needs.

In-class support teacher

For mild difficulties: the support teacher guides the student to learn directly from the class teacher.

In-class training companion

For students with combined difficulties: a companion teacher supports them for a set period until they are independent, then gradually withdraws.

5

External Services (Individual Sessions)

Services for the wider community — children and students not enrolled at the academy — as individual sessions or assessments, from birth to 16: learning difficulties, developmental disorders, physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, and behavioural or psychological challenges.

  • Psycho-educational assessment
  • Learning support in core subjects
  • Speech therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Behaviour modification
  • Psychological and educational consultations
  • Early intervention sessions
  • Individual skill development
6

Family Counselling

Psychological and educational counselling for families whose children face difficulties adapting to daily life, and training in how to support their child and manage the effect on family life.

7

Awareness & Community Education

Raising awareness about disability and the rights, abilities and characteristics of people with disabilities, challenging stereotypes and misconceptions, and turning society's attitudes positive.
